Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
