The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
