Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee while the Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half in an inadvertent coming together with team-mate Jones.
The other player came down on the footwear of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the ground grabbing his leg.
The veteran player, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to suffering the problem.
The player will have an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the extent of the issue.
"Instantly, Jokic realized something was wrong," said Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who suffers an injury, that's difficult, particularly somebody as special as him. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, currently, I am more worried primarily about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing something of that nature."
